Chandler, Arizona, September 25, 2018 – Rogers Corporation (NYSE:ROG) is pleased to introduce DeWAL® DW402UV and DW 405BNCUV, skived Ultra High Molecular Weight Polyethylene (UHMW-PE) materials with a modified formula that aids in withstanding direct sunlight and other forms of UV light. These new materials leverage the robust properties of UHMW-PE, while offering unique stability for outdoor UV-exposed applications.
Typical UHMW-PE products are not considered to be UV stable. In fact, most will degrade when exposed to prolonged sun and other UV light. Rogers’ new DeWAL DW402UV & DW 405BNCUV materials are enhanced with a filler that aids in the material’s ability to withstand the harmful effects of UV light. At the same time, the modified formulas retain all the key properties of UHMW-PE such as extremely high abrasion resistance, which exceeds the abrasion resistance of steel. This property, coupled with broad chemical resistance and low coefficient of friction, makes these materials an extremely versatile engineering solution for severe outdoor service applications.
These new materials are ideal for challenging applications such as the inner and outer surfaces for certain chemical, fuel, and hydraulic hoses. Other examples include linings for chutes and material moving equipment to decrease friction and wear or automotive weather stripping.
